Kerry Group to contribute €50,000 to support response by Concern (the Group's International Humanitarian partner organisation)
Announcement by Stan McCarthy, Chief Executive
As everybody knows, the major earthquake which struck Haiti has caused catastrophic destruction in the western hemisphere's most impoverished nation. I know very many of our employees and shareholders have contributed financially to the relief funds established by the International Aid Agencies. Where employees wish to contribute collectively or organise fundraising activities in support of the relief programmes, Kerry businesses will also contribute on a regional basis to such employee initiatives.
At a corporate level, Kerry Group is contributing €50,000 to assist the work of its partner humanitarian aid agency 'Concern' in Haiti. Concern is on the ground in Haiti helping survivors - distributing water, food, medicine and shelter items to homeless families in the poorest slum areas of Saint Martin and Martissant.
Our support to this deserving cause is over and above the Group's on going corporate support to social, charitable and community projects.

Daly River Bakery Training Program In early April, a remote bakery training program was delivered at the Indigenous Catholic Mission called Nauiyu which is situated 250km South West of Darwin in a remote settlement outside town. The training was delivered by Charles Darwin University and bakery lecturer David Baker over a period of five weeks, with Kerry Pinnacle supporting the program by supplying the bakery ingredients. The focus of the course was to deliver basic skills in baking and finishing of products such as scones, fruit loaves, cakes and breads, which could then be utilised in local food stores and school canteens. The course had twelve indigenous students from the area who have a variety of roles within the community including working in school canteens. Robert says "the popularity of the course has been so successful that we now have bookings in Jabiru, Bulman and Katherine this year and next." We would like to thank Darwin University for giving Kerry Pinnacle the opportunity to support the training program, and taking baking into remote Indigenous communities as bread and baked goods are a major factor of living in the bush.

Pinnacle Charity Christmas Tree The Christmas season is a good time to help other people in greater need. Kerry Pinnacle helped donate to the Salvation Army, putting up a Charity Christmas Tree in the Newington Head office. The Kerry staff members contributed, putting presents under the tree for 3 weeks. We had an incredibly overwhelming response for 2008, with over 500 presents and numerous non perishable hampers were piled under the tree to donate to children and families across New South Wales, enabling them to experience the joy of the Christmas Season, giving warmth, love and hope. That's what Christmas is all about! We thank everyone who contributed, and hope the donations helped the less fortunate children across Australia to have a brighter and joyous Christmas!

Kytons Bakery celebrates 70 years and the best lamingtons in the country
2008 is turning out to be quite a year for Adelaide's Kytons Bakery! Not only is the successful Adelaide bakery celebrating its 70th Birthday this year, but Kytons has also just been awarded first prize at the National Baking Competition for its lamingtons.
Kytons have been loyal Pinnacle customers for 70 years and began trading in 1938, selling everything from bar cake, cream buns and the most popular of its lines, the lamington log – a madeira based lamington cake, topped with cream and cherries.
Overtime, the business took a turn in direction. Kytons had developed a "Lamington Kit" for schools and community groups. This consisted of sponge, coconut & chocolate dip ingredients, wires, bowls, knives, and measuring sticks.
With the success of his local schools Lamington Drives, Kytons left its stall in the market for over 10 years, concentrating entirely on running fundraising Lamington Drives.
Today, lamingtons are still the product that Kytons is best known for in Adelaide. The business has also expanded into other fundraising drives – hot cross buns, winter pies and a festive Christmas drive.
Current owners, Darren and Sharon Sutton are also developing their lamington market beyond the school fundraising drive, now supplying 6-packs of the award winning lamingtons to independent supermarkets and gourmet stores, and also supplying the food services market.
